I've read through past topics about a hospital charity sale in Madison, WI. I found their website. It sounds very interesting. Who has been? and is it worth a long drive (from southwest Ohio)? Also, I've read that people camp out long before the doors open. Why is this necessary if the entrance tickets have entry times? Thank you for your wisdom.

I hope you don't mind me tacking another question onto your post, but I thought of it when I saw your subject! I've been wondering if you have to have a ticket for Sunday of the sale as well? If it is open in general, are there actually any dolls or anything left by then?

Thanks,

Em

To answer your question, really I need to ask a few. What would you be looking for at the sale? Would you be looking at going only if $ for $ you saved money, or would you want just to get away for a fun weekend? $ for $ when you factor in the gas and hotel, unless you're buying a lot at the sale, you're probably not saving any money.

My sister and I went for the first time last year. We like to do a "girls only" weekend every year or 2 and decided to hit the MCM sale, go antiquing a little, and go over and hit the outlet malls near Kenosha and Guernee Mills. For us, the weekend was worth it. I only bought 1 doll, but found several pieces of furniture. I was a little disappointed that there was not more historical clothing for the dolls. I spent about $250 on 1 doll (Kirsten), Kit's table and chairs, plus 2 extra chairs, Josefina's table and chairs, Kit's desk, Addy's desk, Kirsten's school bag (minus ruler) an incomplete set of Kirsten's dishes, about 20 books, a few little doll sized plastic backpacks, some AGP-NY doll sized t-shirts, and a few other small things. If you look at catalog value- I probably would have paid over $250 for just the doll, books, and other little things- so it's like all that furniture was FREE!

I had a 9:15 ticket. I could have had any historical doll, many AGoTs, bitties, twins, or HSH dolls at that time. There were still Kailey's for $85 but the few Lindseys were gone. I saw only a handful of different historical outfits, but they were all ones I already had and were still about $15. The books were the sweetest deal. Most of them were only $1 each, some were $3. There are a lot of girl sized clothes, but I didn't even look at those really, because my girls are pretty picky about how something feels when they try it on. I also could have had some AGoT furniture- I know there was a bed of some sort, wheelchairs, and a few other things.

I think there are a lot of a few things and a few of a lot of things, if that makes sense. By 9:15 the things that there were only a few of were gone, but there was still a lot of stuff. There were TONS of Kayas and her teepee, there were tons of all (or atleast most) of the historical dolls. There were lots of the doll's trunks for $100.

We didn't stick around for Sunday, but I know you do not need to buy a ticket for Sunday. That's part of the reason people line up early on Sunday anyway. People who have 7:00 or 7:30 time slots do line up early on Saturday to be the first ones in in their time slot. I think there were only a few Lindseys at the sale, so people who had the 7:00 time wanted to be the first 7:00 person in the door. I think about 125-150 people have the same time slot. For our 9:15 time we got there about 8:30 and we were some of the first 15 people in our line.

Well, I've rambled on long enough. If you have specific questions, please ask, and I'll try to be brief.

Thanks much. My friend and I were contemplating going for a mommy's weekend. We would of course like to feel like we're saving money on our purchases.
We've taken our girls to AGPC for the past two years. We would skip this year if we go to the sale. We would like to try to go to AGPNY next year and take the girl's to a Broadway play.
Again thanks for the info.
